SUPER STEAM

Steam

Huge congratulations to all our Year 7 and 8 winners for STEAM. Well done to Reggie Fear and Megan Neall for their entries about vTime, a virtual reality social network allowing anyone, anywhere, to spend quality time with family and friends in virtual reality.  Whilst Megan focused on how this could be used in education and the different types of learners, Reggie focused on the advantages and disadvantages of young people using virtual reality technologies.

Megan was also the winner of the Circus of Creativity competition, where she identified an area in school that could be used for creating projects and enterprises, her mood board below gives a taste of how the area could look. For both competitions Megan was the STEAM winner, beating entrants from other schools and organisations and taking home a circus themed prize as well as a VR headset. Well done Megan and Reggie.Steam 2

Our most recent Year 7 winner was Isla Cross, looking at how You Tubers generate income for their businesses, the problems they face and how they overcome those problems.  Entrants to this competition were tasked with creating a crazy idea for their own You Tube channel and Isla’s crazy creation was how aliens have fun in space.  Isla also saw an opportunity to encourage others to be confident in their craziness and built this into her plan for the first broadcast.  Well done Isla.

We also say well done to Nada Koulaouzos in Year 8 for her entry to our Framestore competition.  Framestore is a creative VFX studio based in London and Nada identified her top 10 films containing special effects as well as discussing some of these effects and how they have been used in different films.  Nada’s detailed entry made her the STEAM winner, again beating entrants from other schools and organisations and saw her take home some cinema vouchers for her hard work.  Well done Nada.

Once again, huge congratulations to all our winners.  Details of STEAM competitions are emailed to all Year 7, 8 and 9 students weekly.  Competition entries should be submitted before the deadline date in the email and can be handed in to Ms J Fenton-Hall (Head of ICT and Computing) in ICT3, the ICT office or by email.  There are a range of prizes available from STEAM every week, along with our own school prizes and certificates, which are all presented in assembly.
