RED HAT COMPETITION

Open Schools Coding Competition is a collaboration by Red Hat, Lord Wandsworth College and University of Surrey to inspire the next generation of coders and software developers.

It challenges teams of students to use any free visual programming environment to create a gaming app that will help a charity of their choice. In choosing a charitable cause, each student can gain a sense of how they can use digital skills to make their own contribution to addressing societal challenges, and how open source technology and methodology can drive positive change in the world.

“For the Red Hat competition, we chose WaterAid for our charity. We chose this charity because we want to raise awareness for what they do so they can help more people around the world.

Our game is a maze game and you have to guide your character to the “X” at the end of the level. This sounds simple, however, you cannot touch the pipes otherwise it will restart the level. At the end of each level, it either has a fact about what WaterAid has done in the past or about people with unsanitary water. All of the backgrounds, images, and characters are related to water and we designed them ourselves.

Throughout the game, you are asked if you want to donate to WaterAid to help those in need; we are hoping this will persuade people to donate to WaterAid.

This is the link to our game if you would like a go:”
