Expansion Project Update
The new building, Inclusion Hub and Science classroom projects are being undertaken by McAvoy. They are members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme which is a non-profit-making, independent organisation founded in 1997 by the construction industry to improve its image.
Significant progress has been made this month. The School Student Council were able to visit the new building earlier this month.
"I believe that the new building will be very beneficial as there are more year sevens coming next year and the new building means that here is sufficient space for everyone." Rebekah, Year 7
‘Our eyes were intrigued as soon as we step into the new built. I’m sure that all Student Councils members felt jubilant yet curious to see the built; overall it was a tremendous opportunity to explore the site!’ Harish, Year 7
Our 5 new classrooms and a new dining hall are taking shape.
As you are aware we are also creating a new visitor reception and meeting room at the front of the school.
We hope to open this area in early May.
New cycle racks have been provided as part of the scheme. These are located at the front of the school.
The building is now watertight and internal work has now started.
Delivery of the 46 modules has now been completed. These have been lifted in to place.
This month work has continued on site in preperation for the module delivery in January.
This month work has focused on creating a soakaway for the new building. The whole area has been levelled and prepared for the new building.
Contractors will work on installing the drainage for the new building. The building site footprint has been increased to enable safe working away from students. The snack shack will be moved to another location on the school site and as a result will be closed for the next two weeks. An additional till has been located in our main dining hall to help reduce waiting times. The snack shack has been relocated to the new playground.
Over the last couple of weeks contractors have been on site completing the groundworks ahead of the delivery of the main structure in January. The pads have now all been installed.
Our newly marked staff carpark has been completed and this will allow us to start work on the cycle storage area later in the year.
Work on the link footpath continues. Contractors have also been working on the revised staff carpark layout. This work has been undertaken so that we are able to provide a new secure space for cycles on the school site.
The foundation pads for the new building have started to be installed on the tennis courts.
Contractors have been busy widening the main link footpath between the school buildings. This work will be completed during the half term break. Sections of fence around the tennis court fences will be removed this week in preparation for the installation of foundation pads next week.
Contractors have been working hard to get the temporary haul road installed from the rear of the school site. Fencing has been installed to segregate the building site from the school.
During the summer holiday additional areas have been created for students to use at break and lunchtime. This area will provide much needed hard standing play areas during the construction of the new building.
