IT CAREERS at the BANK OF ENGLAND

On 13th November 2020, a class of Year 11 Computer Scientists were able to have a virtual meeting with Amit, an employee at the Bank of England.

Connecting live through Microsoft Teams, we spent an hour talking with Amit discussing various aspects of the Bank.  Our talk started with a brief quiz about the Bank that Amit had created and moved on to the Mission of the Bank.  Amit spoke in detail about the different roles of the bank including: storing gold, issuing bank notes and supervising other banks and insurance companies. Amit talked enthusiastically about what it is like to work at the bank, he also explained some of the many traditions the Bank still holds while continually updating to be a modern organisation.

We were also able to ask Amit about his career and how he’d progressed through a range of IT and Computing roles before working as a Business Analyst at the Bank of England.  Amit described how he speaks to a range of stakeholders within the Bank about the systems they need and then translates this into a technical system that can be built.  At the end of the talk we had an opportunity to explore the Bank of England website in more detail, researching some of the roles Amit had spoken about in more detail as well as the careers available.
