ARMY STEM WORKSHIP

Operation Disaster Relief

For this event, 33 Year 10s spent two lessons with a member of the British Army.  As well as learning what STEM is and the different careers in the army, they had to work as teams and show leadership, critical thinking and perseverance skills.

The scenario they were given was that an isolated community had been hit by a devastating earthquake and that they needed to work out a way of getting life-saving aid to the survivors. After designing their own robot using Lego, the 6 groups had to input algorithms into a laptop. This allowed them to plot a route so that the robot could deliver the aid successfully, without encountering the hazards of oil/chemical spills and fallen buildings.

Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to the British Army for giving us this great opportunity.
