YOUTH SPEAKS - ROUND TWO

Wednesday 1st February saw the Sunbury Manor Youth Speaks team in action in the second round of this national competition. Having made a clean sweep of the trophies in the first round, it was clear that the team (Megan Bill, Jack Greaves and Holly Hunter) were strong contenders again.

The competition was held at Ruxley Church Hall in Ewell and was made up of teams who had, like our team, won their first round contest. Sunbury Manor were second to speak and, as usual, they were superb. However, after all the teams had spoken, it was clear that the standard of competition was incredibly high and we were all nervous about the result.

After nearly half an hour of deliberation, the judges were finally ready to announce their decisions. Best Chairperson went to Megan, in a close contest best speaker went to Jack, with best Vote of Thanks going to Holly. Having picked up all the individual awards, it was a formality that Sunbury Manor won the overall competition. Yet another brilliant evening and yet another clean sweep. The only people concerned were some of the teams’ parents, who are going to need to build trophy cabinets if our students keep up this level of performance.

The next round is a step up again, but with people saying that they’ve never seen a team produce a clean sweep of the prizes for two rounds in a row, our team go to the next stage of the competition full of well deserved confidence.
