ENGINEERING ISLAND DAY

On 30th October, 20 Year 9 students visited the University of Surrey to test their teamwork and construction skills at an Engineering Day.  The theme of the day was to design and build structures that would be vital for survival on a desert island.  Our students worked in groups to build a shelter, a bridge and a raft with very basic materials and little guidance from staff.  It was certainly a challenge, but everyone got stuck in, worked really hard and did an excellent job of representing Sunbury Manor.

Well done to the overall competition winners: Taylor Sphinx, Bhav Hakimzada, Nicky Dimitrov, Cameron Booth-Downs and Luke Shaw.

“The designing part was really interesting and important - our bridge looked good but it wasn’t a good structure, so it taught us that there are a lot of different parts to Engineering” Harrison Pearce

“I learned the importance of teamwork and communication in engineering” Joe Corcoran
