WORLD BOOK DAY 2020

As in previous years, teachers at Sunbury Manor celebrated WBD by introducing students to inspirational books that they might not have heard of. Students took part in a range of new book related games, quizzes, activities and assemblies – all aimed to encourage them to read more and realise the fun they can have with literature.

Many students and tutor also groups had fun embracing the official ‘share a million stories’ theme of WBD 2020; they spent time discussing their favourite books and thinking of ways to celebrate and promote them, by decorating classroom doors, in an artistic way.

This year saw staff dress up as book characters again. However, this year, each department selected a book and all members dressed up as a different character. There were some great (and sometimes humorous) choices and imaginative costumes.

WBD 2020 also saw the sponsored ‘readathon’ grow in numbers as 85 KS3 students spent the school day reading in the library. Together, they managed to raise over £1300.  Thank you to all the students who took part, but a special shout out to Khenza Yazid who raised over £200!  Amazing!  This year, all money raised will be donated to ‘Read for Good’ who provide reading books, author visits and storytellers to children in hospitals across the country.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the challenges, raised or contributed money.
