ANDORRA 2019
On Friday 16th February, 85 students and 13 teachers departed for the slopes of Andorra for a week of skiing. DJ Parcel and DJ Batten with their tunes and Mr Bocking with his “facts of the day” kept coach B entertained, whilst coach A took advantage of Mr Eynon’s DVD collection. Despite the long coach journey, the excitement grew at the first sight of the snowy mountains.
Everyone went to bed super excited for our first day on the slopes and eagerly woke up to bright blue sunshine and great conditions. Each morning started with a gondola ride to the top of the mountain: this gave many groups the opportunity to have a little sing-song or apply the much needed suntan lotion.
The beginners spent their first day learning the basics: falling over, battling with the button lift and absolutely loving it. With every hour of ski school, everybody was progressing nicely, with some groups by the second day tackling their first red run.
The bright blue sunshine and brilliant ski conditions continued for the rest of the week and, as the week went on, confidence grew and parallel turns became more apparent. All the ski groups impressed and were flying by the end of the week, with some groups progressing to black runs and jumps in the snow park.
Skiing wasn’t the only thing staff and students enjoyed during the trip. The highly anticipated annual ski trip quiz was well received on the first night. With top-notch humour and many laughs, the Year 9 boys came out on top! On Monday night, we hit the shops for some duty free shopping, which was hugely popular amongst students and staff. A visit to the bowling alley and arcade on Tuesday saw some impressive bowling skills, which resulted in many incredibly high scores. Finally, on the last evening, we enjoyed a trip to a local pizza restaurant and a disco to celebrate the end of a great week.
All the students and staff had a fantastic week in Andorra; it was hugely successful and lots of fun. Thank you to all the students that made “Andorra 2019” one of the best ski trips to date. Bring on Andorra 2020!
