Curriculum

At Sunbury Manor School we aim for our students to leave us as well rounded, confident and resilient individuals with high aspirations and expectations of themselves.

We are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum for as long as possible to give solid foundations for future learning and the wider world of work.  To achieve this, students follow a three-year Key Stage 3 enabling all students to develop essential and transferable skills and knowledge before branching out into their chosen fields of study at Key Stage 4.

We believe that all subjects add value to a broad education so ensure that students study English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, History, Geography, R.E, Citizenship, Spanish, Computing, Physical Education, Food and Nutrition, Design and Technology, Music, Art and Drama throughout Key Stage 3 which are all taught as separate subjects, timetabled on a weekly basis.  We believe that this allows all individuals to develop their strengths and talents. To ensure individuals are allowed to grow and develop, we deliver timetabled lessons in Life Skills which not only equip students with the necessary skills to discuss moral and social issues and question the world around them but also provides them with study skills and the tools needed to become independent learners.

In Year 10, students enter Key Stage 4 where the curriculum is centred on GCSEs and other Level 2 qualifications. We encourage students to select a broad and balanced range of subjects that will enable them to progress into post-16 education or training of their choice.

The fundamental role of our school is to provide a high-quality learning experience and all teachers strive to deliver well planned, challenging and engaging lessons. We are committed to maintaining a strong and cohesive teaching staff of qualified subject specialists in all areas of the curriculum. This allows us to provide a high-quality experience in the classroom for all learners.   We believe our students deserve the very best when it comes to their learning, which is why we aim to provide quality training and continued professional development for all our staff. This is essential to ensure that all staff are up to date with their subject knowledge and awareness of an ever-changing educational landscape. We are clear in our mind that students learn best when they can develop a trusting relationship with their teachers and support staff; people they know who have their best interests at heart and can guide them to make improvements by monitoring their progress over time.  We believe that homework is an essential tool for helping students to develop their skills and become independent learners; something that is clearly essential when it comes to preparing young people for the wider world of work.

Whilst there is no doubt that learning and progress are of paramount importance, we are also very conscious that school life is about so much more than just what happens in class. At Sunbury Manor we implement this belief by having a wide and varied programme of extra-curricular activities and enrichment experiences.  We have a responsibility to broaden the horizon of the students in our care and endeavour to do so as often as we can. To that end, we offer a large number of trips, both day and residential, in the UK and internationally.
