UNIVERSITY AT WORK DAY

On 14th March, 21 lucky Year 9 students had the chance to go to the University of Surrey on a ‘University at Work’ day. The focus for this session was how scientific and mathematical skills are used in a wide range of careers. Experts from sport, animal care, law and space talked to us about how they use their Science and Maths backgrounds in their respective fields, allowing the students to explore how they could apply their knowledge to their chosen interests. The highlight of the day, for many, was debating who should be sued in the law activity… it turns out we have some ruthless lawyers in Year 9!

“I found the trip very useful because it gave me more of an idea of what I want to do when I am older and what can help me to get there. One of my favourite things we did was the animal care, where we got hands on with snakes, bearded dragons and even cockroaches! I might even look into animal care for a job because I love animals and I find them so interesting”. Mia Baker 9EST

“The trip to the University of Surrey was very beneficial. It showed me a new way to look at my education and which skills I might use in the future” Harry Corio 9JNA
