Posted on: 16/12/2016FAREWELL TO DEPUTY DANDOThe end of term marked the end of an era at Sunbury Manor as Pete Dando, our Deputy Head, retired after 25 years' service to the school. He will be greatly missed by staff, students and parents alike for the great contibution he has made to the school over the years. Mr Dando was responsible for the incredible rigorous training of students for the honour of being selected as Ball Boys and Girls at Wimbledon, an experience they will never forget. We wish Mr Dando every happiness in this new chapter of his life, as you can see from the photo he has not lost his sense of fun and has already made use of his leaving gift from the Leadership Team. On behalf of the staff and students of Sunbury Manor School, may I take this opportunity to wish you a very happy Christmas and a Prosperous and healthy New Year. Details of all recent events can be found in the Christmas Newsletter which has just been uploaded to the website. School resumes for all staff and students on Tuesday 3rd January 2017. With kind regards, Louise Duncan - Headteacher
Posted on: 1/12/2016GIFTED AND TALENTEDOn Wednesday 19th October, we were pleased to welcome Hannah Rolley - Recruitment & Schools Programme Officer at St Hilda’s College (Oxford University) - to speak to our Gifted and More Able year 10 students. During Hannah’s visit, students were given an introduction into life at university, expectations for entry into university (and Oxford specifically) and a general overview of the broad spectrum of courses available to study. Students were able to speak openly about this; expressing opinions, worries and concerns about course selection, admittance and the financial implications of further study. Hannah was able to discuss these concerns with the students, providing guidance and ‘next steps’ for them to investigate. Student comments on participation include “It gave me a better insight of university”, “it gave me the motivation to have a look at possible courses I could pursue and I feel a little more confident about going to university” and “she [Hannah] answered our questions in a lot of detail”. For further information on St Hilda’s College following the visit - or to look into some ‘taster’ university options available to all students - please view the below links. www.st-hildas.ox.ac.uk www.open.edu/openlearn/ http://mooc.org
